Matcha vs coffee

Hey! Hannah here, bet you didn’t know I used to manage a coffee shop! I LOVE cafe culture and N/A beverages.

Today, let’s talk about two of our favorite coffee shop sips, Matcha and Coffee.

Origins:

Matcha comes from Japan, with roots in ancient tea ceremonies. The leaves are shaded for weeks before harvest, enhancing the chlorophyll content and giving it that vibrant green color.

Coffee is originally from Ethiopia, where it was discovered in the 9th century. The beans are roasted to bring out the flavor, with varieties from around the world, each with a unique taste profile.

The Process:

-Matcha: Fresh tea leaves are ground into a fine powder, which is whisked into hot water. The whole leaf is consumed, so you’re getting the full benefits.

-Coffee: Roasted beans are ground and brewed into a cup of coffee, where only the extracted compounds are consumed.

Health Benefits:

-Matcha is rich in antioxidants, especially catechins, which help with inflammation, improve heart health, and support metabolism. The caffeine in matcha is released slowly, providing steady energy and focus without the jitters.

-Coffee is also packed with antioxidants, and studies show it may reduce the risk of certain diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Its caffeine content gives you a quick energy boost, sharpens focus, and improves mood.

Negatives:

Matcha can be high in lead, depending on the quality, since it’s grown in the shade. It can also cause stomach discomfort if consumed in excess due to its high concentration of tannins.

Coffee, on the other hand, can lead to jitteriness, anxiety, and disrupt sleep if consumed too late. Too much can also cause digestive issues or dehydration due to its diuretic properties.

Essentially:

Whether you prefer the calming, slow-burn energy of matcha or the bold, quick boost of coffee, both drinks have their unique benefits and qualities. It all comes down to how you like to fuel your day!
